Robotics startup Generalist reaches $3B valuation, sources say
Robotics startup Generalist has reached a $3 billion valuation after raising nearly $200 million in new funding. Combined with its previous $400 million Series B, the company has now raised $600 million in the round.

Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind researchers and a former Boston Dynamics engineer, Generalist is developing an AI foundation model designed to work across different types of robots.
Its new Gen 1.5 model reportedly allows robots to learn new tasks by watching just 3 to 12 seconds of video demonstrations.
Generalist is competing with companies such as Physical Intelligence, Skild AI, and Genesis AI. The growing investment in the sector reflects expectations that robotics could experience its own “ChatGPT moment,” where robots can perform a wide range of tasks without being specifically trained for each one.
However, experts warn that truly general-purpose robotics AI may still be several years away because robots lack the enormous amount of training data available to large language models.
